Successful vs Unsuccessful – Which Are You?

We are almost a couple of months in to the new year; you now have had a chance to see how some of your New Year’s Resolutions are playing out. Are any of them still alive? If it takes 21 days to build something as a habit, then there has been ample time to develop at least one or two good habits.

Let’s identify the traits of the successful vs the unsuccessful person. Regardless of how these resolutions are shaping up, I want to encourage you to develop at least a few of the habits shared by so many successful men and women. Identify the traits below that you most closely identify with in your life.

Successful People

  • Compliment
  • Always have a sense of gratitude
  • Read everyday
  • Continuously learn
  • Keep a To-Do Project List
  • Keep a To-Be List
  • Set Goals and develop a life plan
  • Accept responsibilities for your failures
  • Keep a journal
  • Talk about ideas
  • Want others to succeed
  • Give others credit for their victories
  • Operate from a transformational perspective
  • Embrace Change
  • Forgive others

Unsuccessful People

  • Criticize
  • Have a sense of entitlement
  • Take all the credit for their victories
  • Watch TV everyday
  • Fear change
  • Fly by the seat of their pants
  • Talk about people
  • Horde information and data
  • Exude anger
  • Never set goals
  • Don’t know what they want to be
  • Secretly hope others fail
  • Operate from a transactional perspective
  • Think they know it all
  • Say they keep a journal but really don’t
  • Blame others for their failures
  • Hold a grudge

Clearly nobody sets out on the path to have the latter set of traits but commonly life circumstances can begin to transform you. Bad habits, like many of the characteristics listed above, have a way to slowly and unknowingly weave their way into your days, attitude and psyche. Be intentional to recognize them and rid them from your world.

My hope is that this list will help to identify traits that have crept into your life. Then with a sense of purpose and determination work to transform your life into the one that you desire. Let’s work this year to establish more habits from the Successful Person’s list above.

My prayers are with you!
